About the Event
A workshop looking at developing an idea into a composition. We will start in the morning with Ruth, looking at how paying attention to composition can improve you work. After a brief look at various composition designs, we will take various images and experiment with different compositions and formats and the effects that they give. Please bring a sketchbook and sketching tools for exercises and taking notes.
After lunch you will have the opportunity to tour the exhibition with both the artists, who will talk about the approaches that they took for their paintings. You can also look at their sketchbooks and talk to them about their ideas.
Capitalising on the morning session and tour, Julie will then look at using the figure in the composition to tell a story, with the emphasis upon drama and impression through hands-on exercises. This will include indicating mood through gesture (pose and body language) and placement of the figure within the picture (focusing on variations of placement of the horizon line). Feel free to bring the medium of your choice as the emphasis is firmly on the conceptual and ideas to take away for your own paintings. Advance booking required as places are limited.
This booking includes tea/coffee/cake, but please bring a sketchbook and any painitng materials you would like to use. Please be prompt.
